A Perforator is a extraction apparatus to perform a intensive liquid-liquid extraction. In this process the solvent is vaporised, condensed in a return condenser in order to drip continuously onto the extraction material, that is solved in a liquid; immiscible with the solvent.

This extraction procedure is named Perforator-Method, which is applied to determinate a formaldehyde content in unpainted wood based panels. Formaldehyde is extracted from the assay with boiling toluol and given into solution with distilled and demineralised water. The formaldehyde content of the aqueous solution can be analysed photometrically by the Acatylacetone-Method.

Normative references

The determination of formaldehyde content of unpainted wood based panels is standardised by DIN EN 120:1992.

It prescribes the extraction method and the following quantitative analysis of formaldehyde in the wood assays.
